What's Become of the Savanna Army Depot ?

from a 2013 documentary created by students at River Ridge High School in Hanover, Ill.

On Midwest Week, a former testing and storage site for bombs and munitions in northwestern Illinois is now teeming with wildlife.

Herb Trix's guest is Barb Ickes, columnist for the Quad City Times.

You can also hear Midwest Week Fridays on WVIK at 6:20 pm during All Things Considered.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
