A Visit to Afghanistan

Jordan Schneider

The first woman to teach at a private university in Afghanistan will be the featured speaker Saturday for the local chapter of the American Association of University Women. Jordan Schneider of Davenport spent a month in 2013, teaching and living in Herat, in the western part of the country.

Schneider had hoped to stay longer, but as a private person, and without the money to pay for security, a translator, and driver, she could only stay a short time.
She helped deliver old textbooks to Afghanistan for a group called Books with Wings, taught at a private university, and did some private tutoring.

And she hopes to go back, but this time affiliated with an agency or contractor so she can stay longer.
Schneider will speak at Saturday morning's meeting of the AAUW, at the Butterworth Center in Moline, at 9:30.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
