Vikings Compete for Elusive NCAA Div. III Title

submitted
Official Final Four team portrait

The Augustana Vikings are in Salem, Va. to play Williams in the NCAA Division III semifinals, trying to win their first national title.

It's their seventh Final Four appearance in school history. One was in the 1973 NAIA tournament, and the others were in NCAA Division Three in 1975, 1976, 1981, 1993, 2015, and now this year.

Augustana men's basketball teams finished second in 2015, 1993, and 1981. The Vikings finished third in 1975 and 1976.

Coach Grey Giovanine is confident the men's basketball team is well-prepared. It's an even matchup, as both teams have won 23 games and lost 8.

Tipoff for the Vikings and Ephs is 6:30 p.m. (CST). That follows the other semifinal matchup between Whitman (31-0) and Babson (29-2).

Tonight, Augustana invites fans to watch the game at the Carver PE center on campus in Rock Island. The doors will open at 5:00 p.m. And if the Vikings advance to the championship game, Saturday's watch party will be held at the River House in Moline. Game time is 5:00 p.m. (CST).

Tonight's game against Williams will be live-streamed online. And Saturday’s championship game will be broadcast on the CBS Sports Network. In the Quad Cities, that's Mediacom channels 171 and 662 (high definition), Dish Network channel 158, and DirectTV channel 221.
