A Timely Gift for the Homeless

Kale Heating & Air Conditioning
Kale, Republic, and Cattani at Christian Care in downtown Rock Island

Just two days after a call went out for donations to keep the heat on at a local homeless shelter, several local companies joined forces to help. On Saturday they delivered and installed a new heating unit for the men's dormitory at Christian Care in downtown Rock Island.

The 15 year old heating and cooling unit failed on Thursday, and Christian Care said it had no money to replace it.

Then to the rescue came Kale Heating and Air Conditioning, Republic, YORK, and Cattani Crane.

Republic is a local distributor of hvac equipment and it teamed up with furnace manufacturer YORK to donate the full cost of the new unit. Kale Heating and Air Conditioning then donated the cost of installation and made sure the heat came on in time for the onset of frigid conditions Saturday night.

Cattani Crane provided the crane to lift the unit onto the roof at Christian Care.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
