A strike at Black Hawk College could start as soon as next week. Monday leaders of the union representing faculty and professional staff gave formal notice to the college that they intend to set up picket lines next Monday (4/2).
Negotiating sessions are set for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. But union spokesman Acie Earl says, quote, "if the Board continues dragging its feet at the bargaining table, they will force us on the strike lines Monday."
A spokesman for the college says negotiations will continue this week and it hopes a "fair and satisfactory agreement" can be reached.
The union represents about 160 employees of Black Hawk College. Work on a new contract began one year ago, and their contract was scheduled to expire last August.
Earl has said the two sides have agreed already on most provisions of a possible new contract, but the one they haven't agreed on yet is salaries.
