Rivers Still Rising

National Weather Service
The Miss. R. at the QC Friday 3/15/19

The Mississippi and Rock Rivers continue to rise and should crest, at least for now, over the weekend.

In the Quad Cities, the Mississippi reached flood stage Friday morning, and has gone up 6-tenths of a foot since then. The National Weather Service predicts it will crest on Sunday night and Monday at 3 1/2 feet over flood stage, and then fall slightly over the next few days.

Upstream at Dubuque, the river should go over flood stage by a couple of tenths on Sunday, while downstream from here at Muscatine, the Mississippi is at flood stage now and will rise 4 1/2 feet by Monday.

At Joslin, the Rock River on Friday is 6 feet over flood stage and will probably rise another foot through Sunday, while at Moline, the Rock is 3 feet over flood stage Friday. It's expected to go up another 1.3 feet over the weekend.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
