River Levels Are Falling

National Weather Service
The Mississippi River in the QC, on Monday 10/15

The Mississippi River has begun to fall, but it will stay at relatively high levels for the rest of the week, and maybe longer.

On Monday, the National Weather Service says it's 2 feet over flood stage in the Quad Cities, down one foot from its crest on Saturday. It's expected to drop another half foot or so but hold near 1 1/2 feet over flood stage through next weekend.

It's four feet over flood state Monday in Muscatine, after a crest on Saturday about one foot higher.

Along the Rock River, it's falling at both Joslin and Moline after cresting late last week - now 3 1/2 feet over flood stage at Joslin, and 1.7 feet over, at Moline.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
