River Action Takes On Earth Day Project

River Action, Inc.

For the 33rd year, River Action will celebrate Earth Day. On Saturday, the group will partner with the Bettendorf Parks and Recreation Department to remove invasive weeds from Pigeon Creek Park, east of the Arconic plant.

Program Manager Laura Morris says the park cleanup project will not only promote Earth Day, but also help prepare Pigeon Creek Park for use in the coming months.

"The main focus of Earth Day is to get out and acknowledge the Earth, and make some improvements. Down specifically at Pigeon Creek Park, it's an area that is utilized, but not utilized to its maximum capacity. So, one of our main goals is to not only improve the environmental factor, but also in a month from now, people will see how beautiful it is and continue its usage."

The cleanup will be held from 9 am to noon on Saturday.

River Action will also hold its annual fundraiser, Fish & Fire, later this month.

I am currently a senior at Augustana College, majoring in Multimedia Journalism and Mass Communication with a minor in Creative Writing. I serve as the General Manager for WAUG.fm, Augustana's online student radio station and have worked as an intern and DJ at Studstill Media Group. I report on local news for WVIK and am honored and excited to be a part of the news team. I hope to pursue a career in radio broadcasting and an eventual master's degree in English or Communications.
