Rising Rivers

Mar 13, 2019

As the weather warms up, and rain falls, rivers in our area are rising and some could reach near record levels this spring.

In the Quad Cities, the Mississippi River has risen 1 1/2 feet since Tuesday, and is now about 4 feet below flood stage. It's expected to rise about 8 more feet and crest, for now, at 3.2 feet over flood stage on Sunday.

Upstream at Dubuque, the river is rising more slowly, and could crest nearly one foot over flood stage on Saturday.

The Maquoketa River at Maquoketa has jumped 11 feet since Tuesday, and is forecast to go up another 6 feet through Thursday night, and then fall quickly.

The Rock River is already 2 feet over flood stage in Moline Wednesday, and will probably go up another 2 feet or more and crest on Sunday.
