300 students and environmentalists will be in Davenport this week, to talk about climate change, flooding issues, and alternative transportation. Tomorrow is the first day of the 7th annual Upper Mississippi River Conference.
Executive Director of River Action, Kathy Wine, says the three-day conference is a chance for people to learn how to improve the river, its water quality, and the land around it. And, community leaders will meet with professionals from the Army Corps of Engineers, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, and other agencies.
Wine says 43 speakers from across the county will speak on topics ranging from drinking water protection, floodplain restoration, and community engagement. The conference also includes a field trip to the Hennepin Canal, a bike tour of the Quad Cities riverfront, and a Channel Cat Water Taxi tour.
150 students will participate in climate change panels and other events. And, Reverend Robert Grant, from Saint Ambrose University, will speak about the Pope's Encyclical.
Wine says registration is open through the start of the Upper Mississippi River Conference, which begins tomorrow, at 4 pm, and runs through Friday, at the RiverCenter in Davenport.
