Despite their age, three recreation facilities in Bettendorf are operating efficiently, and shouldn't need major upgrades for at least several years. That was the report Monday night to the city council from Sports Facility Advisors.
Director of Parks and Recreation, Steve Grimes, says the consultant studied the Life Fitness Center, Splash Landing, and Community Center - to find out if they should be renovated or replaced, and estimate how much longer they'll last.
The "near future" in this case means 5 to 10 years.
Grimes says the Community Center in downtown Bettendorf was built in 1955, while the Life Fitness Center dates back to about 1969 - 14 years before the city bought it. And both host more than 100,000 people a year.
Originally built as the Middle Park Pool in the late 60's, Splash Landings hosts about 60,000 people every summer.
