QC Bike Share Committee Seeks Public Input

Bike Share and River Action

The Quad Cities already has public transportation, including buses and taxis, and soon, bicycles could join the list. Tuesday, River Action will ask local residents to help plan a new Bike Share program, at Centre Station in downtown Moline.
Tim Chambers, from River Action, says Bike Share is a system where residents and tourists could check out bikes at docking stations throughout the Quad Cities. Commuters would pay an annual fee to use the bikes regularly, or pay by the hour.

Several local organizations have collaborated with Alta Planning and Design, to put together a study, gauging the feasibility of Bike Share. He says one of the biggest problems is figuring out how to organize Bike Share in multiple cities in the area.
Tuesday at 5:30 pm, River Action will present the information gathered so far, and ask the community about potential Bike Share locations and funding options. Chambers says the idea "looks promising" so far, but plans won't move forward until the community supports it.
