Q-C Times 'Big Story': The Evolution Of Sylvan Island

Cyclists cross the new bike and pedestrian bridge that links Sylvan Island with the north shore of Moline. The bridge opened December 2017, several years after the City of Moline closed the previous bridge after it was deemed unsafe.

For this weekend’s "Big Story" in the Quad-City Times, reporter Jack Cullen explores the evolution of Sylvan Island on the Mississippi River. He reports that this is the first full spring in six years that pedestrians and cyclists have been able to access the island, after the only other bridge remained closed for several years because of structural deficiences.
