Public Meetings for RI Superintendent Search

This week, residents of the Rock Island School District can help choose the next superintendent. Three open forums will be held for people to talk about "the qualities and characteristics" they think are most important.

All three will be held at the Quad City Botanical Center:

- Tuesday night at 7,

- and on Wednesday night - one session begins at 6, with a second at 7 pm.

The district is also accepting comments and suggestions through next Monday (9/24) using an online input survey.

Current superintendent Mike Oberhaus will retire next year. The application deadline is November 20th, and the school board hopes to choose a replacement before Christmas.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
