New Tax Law Helps HNI

Thanks in part to the new tax law, earnings rose last year for HNI Corporation. The Muscatine-based maker of office furniture and fireplaces reports a profit of $2 per share in 2017, compared with $1.88 the previous year.

That includes a one-time tax benefit of 45 million dollars resulting from the federal tax overhaul.

Sale fell however, by 1.3 per cent, to $2.1 billion.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
