New Study Finds Millions Still Live in Poverty in Illinois

Hearland Alliance
poverty in Illinois, by county

While other states have begun to recover since the great recession, Illinois has not. That's the conclusion of the latest annual study of poverty in the state by the Heartland Alliance, a Chicago-based non-profit that focuses on human rights, housing, health care, and employment.

Herb Trix reports.

Economy
A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
