New National Retailer at Southpark

What could be a new anchor store for Southpark Mall in Moline is now open. Company and city officials, and new employees, all helped cut the ribbon this afternoon at Dick's Sporting Goods.

Spokesman Matt Teske says the new store covers 45,000 square feet, and has about 45 full and part time workers.
Originally Dick's was not scheduled to open until later this week, but Teske says it was ready this morning, so they went ahead and unlocked the doors.

Joining the celebration was Moline city administrator, Lew Steinbrecher. He calls it an excellent addition to Southpark.

We hope this keeps Illinois residents on this side of the river, and attracts new shoppers.

Steinbrecher says the mall has been a top priority for the city for many years because it's the number one sales tax generating property in the Illinois Quad Cities, and a critical contributor to his city's budget.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
