New Football Coach at Augustana College

WVIK Staff

Augustana College didn't have to look very far to find a new head football coach.

Today it announced the hiring of Steve Bell, who's been head coach at Monmouth College since 2,000.

During his tenure at Monmouth, Bell compiled a record of 112 wins and 44 losses, four conference championships, his teams advanced to the Division 3 playoffs 4 times, and five times he was chosen Midwest Conference Coach of the year.

He replaces Rob Cushman who resigned last month after leading the Vikings for four years.
Augustana received 150 applications for the job, and interviewed 12, before the narrowing the list to 3 finalists.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
