National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

COPS

Hoping to show their support for police, some local residents have organized an event for Friday's National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. It'll be held in Davenport.

One of the organizers is Sandy Sievert, who works for the Davenport Police Department. Her husband is a retired officer, two children are now serving in Davenport, and her uncle works for the Clinton Police Department.
Sponsors include the Davenport Police Department's Family Support Group and the Davenport Police Association. Sievert expects members from all the police and sheriff's departments in Scott County will attend, plus officers from the Iowa DNR and State Patrol.

The "appreciation day" event will be held at the Starlight Ballroom, at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds from 4 until 6 pm, with guest speaker, retired Secret Service agent Bill Albracht.
Similar events are being held across the country, sponsored by a group called COPS, which stands for Concerns of Police Survivors.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
