News headlines for the morning of August 21, 2017

  • A solar eclipse will sweep across the nation today, casting darkness on the Quad Cities area in the middle of the day. However, the National Weather Service is predicting cloud coverage in the 50 to 80 percent range.

  • Illinois researchers hope that today's solar eclipse sheds light on how sudden atmospheric changes can change the weather.

  • Passenger traffic continued to decline last month at the Quad City Airport.

Solar Eclipse Weather Forecast

The National Weather Service is predicting cloud cover to be in the 50 to 80 percent range…which won’t be a bad thing if the sun is in the clear part during the eclipse. Otherwise, our view could be obstructed. Showers are likely, mainly before 2 p.m. Then, sunny and a high near 84 later in the day. Showers and thunderstorms are likely overnight, lasting into tomorrow morning. Skies will gradually clear tomorrow as we reach a high near 80. Expect highs in the upper 70s through the rest of the week.
