Moline Studies Avenue of the Cities

WVIK News

Residents and business owners can help plan the future of one of Moline's busiest streets. Wednesday night the city will hold an open house to look at possible future plans for the Avenue of the Cities.

City Planner Jeff Anderson says their goal is to improve its safety, appearance, and function.

"So we want to maintain the Avenue of the Cities as a primary transportation corridor, and not do anything to reduce its transportation capabilities. But at the same time we want to make it a desirable place, or enhance its desirability, for economic development and for jobs."

Anderson says the Avenue has a lot of advantages - a lot of traffic that usually moves well, plus it passes quite a few neighborhoods where potential customers live.

It's been about 20 years since Moline collaborated with East Moline and Silvis on a plan for Avenue of the Cities - one of the top two or three east-west corridors in the Illinois Quad Cities.

Wednesday's open house will be held at the Moline Library, from 5:30 to 7 pm - people are invited to come in and look at the displays, ask questions, and make suggestions.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
