Mississippi Moving Closer to Flood Stage

National Weather Service
the Miss. River in the QC Wednesday afternoon

The Mississippi River is rising, from Dubuque down to the Quad Cities.

The National Weather Service says at Lock and Dam 11 in Dubuque Wednesday afternoon, the river measured one foot below flood stage. It should reach flood stage Thursday night then crest about half foot higher on Saturday, and stay near that level through Tuesday.

In the Quad Cities, the Mississippi has reached nearly 1 foot below flood stage, with flood stage expected on Saturday afternoon. After that, the river should rise and crest on Monday at 1.2 feet over flood stage.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
