Miss. River Falling Slowly

National Weather Service
Monday morning's level in the QC

After cresting over the weekend, the Mississippi River has started to fall, but very slowly.

The National Weather Service says the the river crested in the Quad Cities on Friday and Saturday at 2.4 feet over flood stage, and has since dropped about half a foot. It should reach flood stage next Sunday.

At Muscatine, the river crested Sunday at 2.8 feet over flood stage. It's dropped several tenths of a foot since then, and could reach flood stage next Monday.

The Mississippi also crested on Sunday at Burlington, and is holding at that level on Monday.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
