Marttila Running for Iowa House

Joan Marttila

A retired educator from Bettendorf is running for a seat in the Iowa House. Monday Joan Marttila announced she's running as a democrat in District 94, which includes Bettendorf, Riverdale, Panorama Park, and northeast Davenport.

Currently the seat is held by republican Gary Mohr, also from Bettendorf.

For 35 years, Marttila worked as an audiologist for the Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency. And says if elected, she would focus on, quote, "what is right for everyone." That includes good wages, access to affordable health care, a quality education, and safe communities.

The Iowa primary will be held on June 5th, with the general election in November.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
