Construction could start in the spring for a major addition to United Township High School in East Moline. Monday night, the board of education approved plans for the "Student Life Addition."
Superintendent Jay Morrow says the project will cost 9.5 million dollars, and add between 20 and 22,000 square feet.
"It's renovating the current offices, expanding out to the front side of the building, or to the south side to include some new office space, as well as a secure entrance, a new library, and a student commons area attached to the cafeteria."
Construction could start in the spring, with completion by the summer of 2019.
Doctor Morrow says the project is made possible by the local sales tax for schools approved last year by voters in Rock Island County.
