Loras Extends Collins' Contract

Loras College

The contract for the president of Loras College in Dubuque has been extended. Wednesday the board of regents announced a five year extension for Jim Collins that would make him the longest serving president in the history of the college.

Now beginning his 15th year, Collins became the youngest president of Loras when he was hired in 2004.
He graduated from the college in 1984 with a degree in finance, and has worked in various positions for his alma mater for 34 years.

The college says under his leadership, graduation, retention, job placement, and fundraising numbers are all at historic highs. In addition, new sports have been added, and numerous construction and renovation projects have been completed.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
