River Action wants to build a pedestrian bridge over Davenport's River Drive and promote history at the same time. The group is trying to raise 50,000 dollars on Kickstarter to show government officials the three million dollar project has plenty of local support.

Executive Director, Kathy Wine, says the original embankment for the very first Mississippi River bridge is still located on Federal Street at River Drive. And the owner donated the property to River Action.
River Action hopes the project will attract tourists since Abraham Lincoln represented the railroad in court after the EffieAfton steamboat hit one of the bridge piers, causing a fire that destroyed one of the spans. The famous incident occurred two weeks after the bridge opened in 1856.

River Action's Kickstarter campaign will end late Wednesday afternoon. As of this afternoon (fri), 31,000 of the 50,000 dollar goal has been pledged. The three million dollar total includes enough money for an endowment to maintain the bridge.
