Lincoln Student Laureates Honored in Springfield

Carl Sandburg College

Top college students in Illinois will be honored this weekend for excellence and leadership. The Lincoln Academy of Illinois will present the Abraham Lincoln Civic Engagement Award at a ceremony in Springfield on Saturday.

Augustana Senior Adam Gronewold , from Galena, is one of the winners, as well as Carl Sandburg College student Zana Danner from Sherrard.

Danner is involved in student government, greek life, and service activities on campus and in Galesburg.

"I was able to get out in the community and volunteer with preschool children and help them see the betterment in going to college." said Danner. "Also, I love tutoring and doing academic coaching because it allows me to share what I've learned with other students. So they can succeed as much as I've been able to succeed here at Carl Sandburg College."
The student laureates will recieve a certificate of merit, a Lincoln medallion, and one thousand dollars. This is the 44th year the academy has presented the awards.

I'm currently a Senior at Augustana College, working on majors in Multimedia Journalism and Mass Communication and Communication Studies. In addition to interning at the station, I also work for the Augustana Observer, the college's official student newspaper, as a writer for the Arts and Entertainment section.
