Earnings improved but revenue fell for Lee Enterprises during its 3rd quarter. Thursday the newspaper company based in Davenport that owns the Quad City Times, reported results for April through June.
Overall revenue dropped 4.9 per cent, while earnings per share rose to 8 cents, compared to 5 cents a year ago.
Spokesman Charles Arms says it was generally a good quarter for the company with improvements in revenue and subscriptions. And while print advertising revenue fell 7 per cent, digital advertising jumped 5 per cent and now represents a quarter of Lee's advertising revenue.
Average daily newspaper circulation is now 900,000, and 1.3 million on Sundays.
Lee Enterprises owns 49 daily newspapers in 22 states, plus about 250 specialty publications.
