Grimes Will Lead Churches United

Churches United

Directors of Churches United have chosen a new executive director. Tuesday they announced the appointment of Reverend Doctor Melvin Grimes who has been serving as interim executive director since December.

He took over from Ann Wachal who resigned after 7 years, and a total of 19 with the organization.

Grimes has a long history with Churches United, including president of the board of directors and treasurer.
Since 1989, he's served as pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Moline.

Founded 57 years ago, Churches United of the Quad City Area is an association of 143 churches, representing more than 20 Christian faith traditions. It provides food for the hungry and shelter for homeless women and children who may have survived domestic violence.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
