Get Rid of Unused or Expired Prescription Drugs

Credit DEA

Local residents have a good reason to clean out their medicine cabinets this weekend. Saturday, residents can drop off unwanted or expired prescription drugs, at the Waste Commission of Scott County or the Rock Island County Justice Center.

Both counties' sheriff's offices are working with the Drug Enforcement Administration to properly dispose of prescription drugs, with the goal of preventing pill abuse and theft. The DEA cannot accept needles or liquids, but will take pills and patches.

The Waste Commission, on Carey Avenue in Davenport, and the Justice Center, on 3rd Avenue in Rock Island, will be open from 10 am to 2 pm Saturday.

Combined, Scott and Rock Island counties collect about 700 pounds of prescription drugs each year.
