Galesburg will continue helping its residents and businesses pay the lowest cost possible for electricity. This week, the city council chose Homefield Energy to be its power supplier.
The city's purchasing agent, Kraig Boynton, says electricity customers in Galesburg have saved 5 per cent since the program began two years ago, because of what's called "aggregation."
Galesburg hired Homefield two years ago to supply electricity at 4.3 cents per kilowatt hour, and that cost will continue through June, then increase to 5.4 cents, for one year.
Home and business owners will still receive one bill - from Ameren - but the supply portion of the bill will list Homefield.
Notices about the program will go out soon, and homeowners and businesses will then have three weeks to decide, whether to opt out of the aggregation program and buy electricity from Ameren, or some other company.
