Flooding should not be a major problem in the coming weeks. That's the message from the National Weather Service in its second Spring Flood Outlook, issued today.
Meteorologist John Haase, from the Davenport office, says the possibility of flooding by the Mississippi River is considered to be below normal, from Dubuque to New Boston, but near normal downstream from there.
Heavy rain in the coming weeks could significantly change the prospects for flooding, but Haase says the current forecast is for normal or below normal precipitation.
The chances of flooding by the smaller, tributary rivers is considered to be normal so far, including the Rock, Wapsi, Iowa, and Cedar. But Haase says flooding caused by ice jams is possible, depending on how quickly temperatures warm up.
