'Flip the District' Raises Funds For Suicide Prevention

Flip the District

This weekend, a local fraternity will "flip cups" for a good cause.  Augustana College's Alpha Sigma Xi is teaming up with two bars in Downtown Rock Island.

Students and others will attempt to break the world record for the largest number of people in a row to drink a cup of water then flip it over for the next person.  All the proceeds will go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Organizer Josh Hennen hopes the game at Daiquiri Factory and M.D. Green's beats the Chicago's Cubs record of 200 people in a row.

"For our event, what we are trying to do is break that record and get more than 200 people.  We're hoping for anywhere between 250-300.  The proceeds are going to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and that's in honor of  one of our alumni who past away last year and lost her life to suicide."

Saturday's record-breaking attempt will start at 11 a.m. in the Arts and Entertainment District.  The fundraiser will also include a raffle, silent auction, and t-shirts.

Hennen says so far 220 people have confirmed, and 135 bought T-shirts.
