National Weather Service of the Quad Cities

There's a LOT of green on the home page of the Quad Cities National Weather Service. That's because the local office has issued several flood watches and warnings.

Forecasters have issued a Flash Flood Watch for eastern Iowa and parts of northwestern Illinois, from 7 pm through Wednesday evening. During that time, thunderstorms are likely and will produce torrential rainfall with one to two inches of rain per hour possible. Some places could also be hit with repeated rounds of thunderstorms, increasing the chance of flash flooding.

Flooding along rivers is also possible, and the local weather service has issued Flood Warnings for the Mississippi, Rock, Wapsipinicon, and other tributaries.

The Mississippi in the Quad Cities is expected to slowly rise to flood stage on Friday, then crest about one foot higher on Monday.

The Rock River in Moline has already reached flood stage. It's forecast to rise another 2.8 feet by Friday, then start to fall.

Major flooding is expected on the Wapsi near DeWitt, where the river is already nearly a foot over flood stage and rising.

These figures include past precipitation AND rain that's in the forecast for the next 24 hours.

Later this week, forecasters expect the remnants of Tropical Cyclone "Gordon" to produce a lot of rain south of the Quad Cities area.
