Deere and Company plans to layoff more than 600 employees at four farm equipment factories, including two in the Quad Cities. Today Deere announce it's responding to reduced demand for combines, sprayers, cotton pickers, grain drills, seeding equipment, and other products.
The indefinite layoffs will affect workers at John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline, Deere Seeding and Cylinder in Moline, the Des Moines Works in Ankeny, and John Deere Coffeyville in Kansas. Deere also says it will lay-off other employees temporarily at the same plants, and will implement seasonal shutdowns and reduce inventories.
When it announced 3rd quarter earnings on Wednesday, the company also said it planned to reduce production of agriculture equipment in the 4th quarter.
