The late Davenport Fire Marshal & Assistant Chief Michael Hayman

Friends, family, and coworkers gathered today to remember Davenport Fire Marshal Mike Hayman. A year ago, he died suddenly after serving the department for 33 years. Now, the city is dedicating a memorial stone in his honor.

At a service this morning, Davenport Fire Chief Mike Carlsten said Hayman worked hard to promote fire safety where ever he went.

Among others who spoke at the dedication were Hayman's son, Trevin. He recieved a plaque from the Davenport Fire Department to honor his father.

As well as being a firefighter, Hayman was also an arson investigator and a sworn police officer. Scott County Attorney Michael Walton worked with him regularly and said Hayman was passionate about his job and worked each case from the very beginning to the very end.

The memorial stone will be displayed at Davenport's Central Fire Station downtown.
