Instead of the Quad Cities, this year's presentation of the Pacem In Terris, Peace and Freedom award was held in a Buddhist temple in the Himalays, 7,000 miles from here.
Director of Social Action Kent Ferris says the Diocese of Davenport has presented the award annually since 1964.
"The Pacem in Terris, Peace and Freedom Award recognizes leaders, both nationally and worldwide, that have demonstrated a very strong commitment to peace and justice." said Ferris.
Past winners of the award include Martin Luther King Jr., Dorothy Day, and Mother Theresa. Now, the 14th Dalai Lama will be listed among them.
The winner was chosen by an interfaith council made up of representatives from the Diocese of Davenport, St. Ambrose University, and Augustana College.
A celebration of the presentation is set for Sunday, April 9th in the Rogalski Center at St. Ambrose. Bishop Thomas Zinkula will talk about his trip to the Himalayas and the presentation to the Dalai Lama.
