Criterium Weekend

Quad Cities Criterium

A long weekend of bike racing is underway in eastern Iowa.

The four days began today (fri) with the Burlington Road Races in Burlington, followed tomorrow by the Snake Alley Criterium, also in Burlington.
Racers and fans move upriver on Sunday to Muscatine for the Melon City Criterium, followed by the Quad Cities Criterium on Monday in Davenport.

The course in the Village of East Davenport

It's the 50th anniversary of the Memorial Day races in the Quad Cities - they were first held in the Olde Towne neighborhood in Moline, then moved to downtown Rock Island. And this year, for the second year, they'll be held in the Village of East Davenport.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
