Construction Season Starts Early on I-74 in QCs

As we wait for the new Interstate-74 bridge to be built, the Illinois Department of Transportation continues to make sure the existing one is safe.

Michelle O'Neill reports on the project that starts today.

Summary

Civil Constructors will begin the $4.4 million project to repair the viaduct and ramp that start at Seventh Avenue in Moline. And bridge traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction. Illinois DOT spokesman, John Wegmeyer, says crews will fix the half-mile viaduct that carries vehicles from 7th Avenue, up to the bridge approach where it merges with I-74.

The River Drive ramps in Moline will be closed for repairs during the first part of the project. And drivers will be detoured to the 7th Avenue interchange. In Bettendorf, the Illinois-bound, State Street on-ramp will also be closed. Drivers will have to use the Grant Street on-ramp instead.

During the first phase of the project, Wegmeyer says traffic will use the inside lanes of the I-74 bridge. In the second phase, the outside lanes will carry the traffic, and all the Illinois ramps should be open. The project should be completed with all lanes reopened in August.
