Christian Care Receives $15K Grant

A domestic violence shelter in the Quad Cities can continue its work thanks to a 15-thousand dollar grant. Christian Care has received a grant from the Amy Helpenstell Foundation that will help women and children who are victims of abuse.

There's no limit to how long women and children can stay in the shelter, but CEO Elaine Winter says it's more than just a place to sleep.

She says abuse is often inter-generational, which is why counseling is so important.

The 15-thousand dollar grant will fund counseling in Christian Care's shelter for women and children, which serves around 50 women and 25 children each year.

Christian Care also has another facility for homeless men and serves veterans, people coming out of prison, and those with mental illnesses.
