Brady Street Stadium Ready for Football Season

The home of Friday night lights in Davenport is getting a $2.6 million makeover. The remodeling of Brady Street Stadium is almost completed, but the field will be ready for the start of football season Thursday night.

Mike Maloney is the Director of Operations for the Davenport School District.

"We replaced the artificial turf, expanded the track from six to eight lanes, and, of course, we're also working on the west facade. And that work will be a couple of months before it's finished."

Funding for the project came from Scott County’s local option sales tax for schools.

Maloney says the timing of the project was tricky.

"This is the kind of project where we can't start until track season is over, and were expected to be finished before football season starts. So in a very narrow window, we have to do a lot of work that takes more time than actually was available. So there's been overtime and other things involved in getting this up and ready for the first game of the season."

Brady Street Stadium will re-open Thursday night when Davenport Central hosts Muscatine at 7 PM.
