After several years of increases, the cost of attending Black Hawk College may hold steady next year. Thursday night the board of trustees will consider a recommendation to keep tuition at its current level for in-district students - at 149 dollars per credit hour.
Chief Financial Officer, Steve Frommelt, says the goal is to keep tuition as affordable as possible, now that the state of Illinois finally has a budget.
"We had a 15 dollar increase and a 12 dollar increase during the state budget impasse. And it was important for the college board of directors and administration to continue to control the tuition cost for our students."
Four years ago tuition at Black Hawk College was just 120 dollars per credit hour, but then thanks to the state it jumped to 135, and then to 147 dollars.
Frommelt says trustees could give their final approval to his recommendation at next month's meeting.
