Once again, residents of the Quad Cities are being asked to visit the Quad Cities. This weekend, the Convention and Visitors Bureau will sponsor the 17th annual "Be a Tourist in Your Own Backyard."

Spokeswoman Jessica Waytenick says the bureau has 10,000 wristbands to hand out that can be used for discounts at more than 30 local attractions, including the Figge Art Museum, Family Museum, and Putnam Museum.

"It's a way for them to experience the Quad Cities the way a visitor would. By going to our attractions, staying in a hotel, and really seeing the community from an outsider's or visitor's perspective, to see all the great things that we have to experience and attractions to go to."

Starting Friday the wristbands will be available at the convention and visitors bureau and all the participating businesses and attractions.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
