Arsenal Adds 160 New Jobs

The Rock Island Arsenal is adding 160 civilian jobs. This morning, Nancy Lane, Director of the Civilian Human Resources Agency on the island, cut the ribbon in front of Building 102. These new positions will all be in human resources for the Department of Defense Education Activity, or DoDEA.

Lane says some of the new workers will help fill positions at the 164 DoDEA schools.

"So, a large part of it will be the recruitment of teachers, non-educators, what we call our wage-grade staff which could be anything from custodial workers, food service workers, when you think of anything that supports the school system."

Other employees will provide HR services, overseeing their benefits, personnel records, and overseas entitlements.

Robert Brady, Associate Director for Financial and Business Operations for DoDEA, says the new employees will be responsible for managing thousands of DoDEA employees' benefits.

"In DoDEA, we have a little over 15,000 employees, and we run about 165 schools around the globe. So you can appreciate how important the HR support is for us, for such a large workforce."
There are DoDEA schools in 11 countries around the world, seven different states, plus Guam and Puerto Rico.
