Another Pro Golf Tournament Begins

A different kind of golf tournament started Tuesday in the Quad Cities, and continues through Saturday. 650 players are competing in the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) Amateur and Junior Disc Golf World Championships.

Competition will be held at disc courses at Camden Park, Credit Island, Eastern Avenue Park, Middle Park, Prospect Park, Richmond Hill Park, and West Lake Park.

The players come from the Quad Cities and across the U.S. plus Germany, Canada, Australia, Austria, and Sweden.

Tournament play will be held Tuesday through Friday, with the semifinals and finals on Saturday afternoon at West Lake Park, followed by the awards ceremony.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
