No More Left Turns

The flow of traffic through one of the Quad Cities' busiest intersections will change drastically tomorrow. On Friday, the Illinois Department of Transportation says left turns will no longer be allowed at the intersection of 38th Street and John Deere Road in Moline.

Local history, lots of things for kids to do, and a place where people can touch the Mississippi. Those are just three things Davenport officials want to incorporate into the city's riverfront after the Rhythm City Casino moves inland. 

With the new fiscal year just two weeks away, the Rock Island County board has finished work on a new budget. Tuesday night, it gave its final approval to spending about 75 million dollars in the coming year.

Plans for a New Bridge

An old bridge across the Mississippi River between Iowa and Illinois will soon be replaced. Wednesday, the Illinois Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing and open house on its plans to build a new bridge that'll carry US 52 between Sabula, Iowa and Savanna, Illinois.

Thousands of workers in Illinois should earn a "livable wage," not a minimum wage. That was the message today at news conferences in the Quad Cities and around the state, organized by the Raise Illinois coalition, on the eve of the General Assembly's veto session.

Life Fitness Center

Bettendorf is thinking about the future of its recreation facilities. This month, the parks and recreation department is asking residents to participate in an online survey about the Splash Landing Aquatic Center, Goettsch Community Center, and Life Fitness Center.

A former school in Davenport might be turned into apartments for seniors. Wednesday night the city council will consider a proposal to re-zone the vacant Buchanan School on West 6th Street.

Remembering Lane Evans

Family, friends, and former colleagues and co-workers said good-by today to Lane Evans. The former congressman from Rock Island, who represented western Illinois for 24 years, died last week.
